People who have liposuction report that they feel as if their appearance has improved an in return their confidence becomes better.

People who have liposuction can combat the appearance of cellulite.  Many people struggle to get rid of cellulite and try exercise and dieting only to find that it is not effective at reducing the appearance of cellulite.

What Risks are Associated with Liposuction?
Posted By Westlake Village Plastic Surgeon

Just like all surgical procedures, plastic surgery can have risks and complications.  For example, when people haveliposuction, they will face risks such as:

Having excess skin:  this is particularly true when patients are older as liposuction may result in people having more loose skin. After liposuction, people may arrange a separate procedure to have the excess skin removed.

Scarring:  even though liposuction is not as invasive as other forms of cosmetic surgery, some patients have scars from their procedures.  During liposuction, surgeons usually make two small incisions that are less than 4 to 10 mm long.  These incisions are needed so surgeons can insert the liposuction cannula and are usually hidden in natural skin creases or the belly button.  Still, there are cases where scars may be visible post-surgery.

Swelling:  some patients may experience persistent swelling for weeks after liposuction has been performed.  However, wearing an appropriate compression garment can reduce the swelling and expedite healing.

If you have questions or concerns about the risks associated with liposuction, it is important that you set up a consultation with a Westlake Village plastic surgeonContact our office today!

  The Cost of Liposuction
Posted By Westlake Village Plastic Surgeon

There are several factors that will contribute to the overall cost of a liposuction procedure.  Some of these factors include, but are certainly not limited to:

  • The size of the patient (a person who weighs 130 pounds may be charged less than a person who weighs 200 pounds because a lighter person requires less operation time).
  • The number of areas that are receiving liposuction.
  • The amount of time required by the surgeon to perform the liposuction procedure.
  • The professional accreditation of the surgeon (Board Certified surgeons will generally cost more than surgeons who are not Board Certified).
  • Operating room fees and pre-operative fees.
  • The fee for the anesthesiologist.
  • Additional fees for post-operative medications and compression garments.

Again, these are just general cost guidelines and other variables may add to the cost of a liposuction procedure.  For example, the geographic location of the surgeon may influence pricing.

Get the Most from Liposuction by Choosing a Board-Certified Surgeon
Posted By Westlake Village Plastic Surgeon

If you are thinking about having liposuction, the number one thing you need to do is choose a board-certified plastic surgeon.  You should also choose a plastic surgeon that has extensive experience related to liposuction and cosmetic surgery procedures.

What many patients do not know is that in order to become board-certified, a surgeon must complete specific surgical education and training. The training is very rigorous and demands a great deal of time and knowledge.

As you are investigating the cost of a liposuction procedure and consulting with various plastic surgeons, be sure to ask if they have obtained board certification before agreeing to move forward with surgery.  Also keep in mind that board-certified surgeons command higher fees because they are experienced and utilize proper surgical techniques.  Additionally, board-certified surgeons will increase your chance of achieving desired results after liposuction and reduce your risk of developing medical complications post-op.

To speak with a board-certified Westlake Village plastic surgeon, contact the West Coast Plastic Surgery Center now!

  VASER Lipo Explained
Posted By Westlake Village Plastic Surgeon

VASER lipo is a type of liposuction that has become increasingly popular.   During VASER lipo, areas that contain fat are filled with a tumescent solution.  This unique solution contains both a numbing and blood vessel constricting medication that work together to make it easier for fat to pass through the steel suctioning tube.

There are several benefits related to administering this solution to patients.  First, patients often get better results from their liposuction procedures.  Second, there is less bleeding during the surgery.  Finally, patients suffer less pain.

VASER liposuction is also unique because a steel tube is pushed through the fat and its tip emits high frequency sound waves.  These sound waves shake up fat cells, turning them into liquid emulsion and do not injure nerves or blood vessels.  After the fat cells have been subjected to the sound waves, a suction tube is introduced to remove the fat fluid, which is quite extraordinary for body contouring.

If you would like to learn more about VASER lipo, schedule a consultation with a Westlake Village plastic surgeon by contacting the West Coast Plastic Surgery Center.

  Liposuction: Common Questions
Posted By Westlake Village Plastic Surgeon

When it comes to the topic of liposuction, people tend to have a lot of questions.  Below, we provide answers to some of the more commonly asked questions that prospective patients have:

§  Am I good candidate for liposuction?
Generally speaking, you are a good candidate for liposuction if you are likely to be happy with the outcome of this surgical procedure.  Additionally, you must be in good health and have reasonable expectations about what this procedure will accomplish for you.  Any individual that expects perfection after liposuction, that is extremely obese or that has serious medical complications may not be a good candidate.

§  Can liposuction treat obesity?
No, liposuction is not a treatment option for obesity.  Instead, people who are obese should adhere to a feasible diet and exercise program to lose desire weight.

§  How many pounds of fat can be removed in a day?
Surgeons can remove 8 to 10 pounds of fat a day with liposuction.  More than this is dangerous to the patient.  For this reason, liposuction is usually not an ideal option for people who are obese.

§  Will liposuction remove cellulite from my body?
When people have liposuction, the appearance of cellulite usually improves, but cellulite is not necessarily eliminated.  Additionally, people who have liposuction notice an improvement in the overall silhouette of the area that has received treatment.

§  Are results permanent?
The results are more or less permanent and so is the new body shape.  Should you gain weight later on the shape of your body should remain the same but become larger.  Also, fat cells that have been removed by liposuction do not grow back.

If you would like to learn more about liposuction, contact the West Coast Plastic Surgery Center and set up a time to speak with a Westlake Village plastic surgeon.
