New statistics show that cosmetic surgeries such as breast augmentation and facelifts have increased dramatically in the United States. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the number of cosmetic procedures performed in 2010 increased by 5% compared to 2009 with a total of 13.1 million surgeries.
Additionally, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that reconstructive surgeries rose by 2% compared to the prior year.
In 2010, the top procedures were: breast augmentation, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, liposuction, and tummy tucks.
Many plastic surgeons say that the increase in surgical procedures can be attributed to the upswing in the economy. When the economy suffered just years ago, there was a dramatic decrease in the number of plastic surgery procedures performed. However, when the economy improved, more people sought plastic surgery.
