The Miami Herald recently produced an article claiming that more men are opting for cosmetic procedures. While plastic surgery was once considered a woman's field, more men are realizing that there is nothing inherently feminine about improving your appearance. Men who lose drastic amounts of weight often have excess skin that they want to get rid of, so a tummy tuck may be the way to go. A surgery can remove all of the excess skin that is keeping these men from having the body that they worked so hard to achieve in the first place.
One Miami man who recently received this procedure told the newspaper that he feels much better about his appearance now and he feels like he has lost even more weight since he doesn't have the excessive sagging skin in the way. This man says that when he first considered getting plastic surgery 20 years ago, it wasn't common for men to have cosmetic procedures done. Now, he believes that men are starting to see plastic surgery as a social norm and a great way to improve the appearance. One male says that plastic surgery is now like getting a haircut, it's considered normal and natural.
Men still trail women in the number of plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures that are performed nationwide, but not by much. In fact, doctors admit that they are seeing more and more men every season. Males are now coming in for Botox, dermal fillers, liposuction, tummy tucks and more. Overall, there are about 14.6 cosmetic surgeries performed in the U.S per year. This includes both male and female patients.
The men's percentage of the total for 2012 is not yet available, but in 2011 13% of the statistic was made up of cosmetic surgical procedures for men and they made up 9% of the customers for minimally invasive procedures. In total, 9% of all plastic surgeries were done on men in 2011. If you want more information about male plastic surgery options, then you need to discuss your desires with a local plastic surgeon.
