Why More Men Are Choosing Plastic Surgery

In 2013, Americans spent more on aesthetic procedures than they had since 2008, and many plastic surgeons are attributing this spike to the increase in the number of men who are electing to undergo cosmetic surgery.

We can't ignore the fact that the media and reality TV are opening our eyes to what can be done surgically and non-surgically. In an era where BOTOX and liposuction are widely popular aesthetic procedures, plastic surgery has been demystified by the sheer number of people that are doing it and seeing amazing results.

When you live in a big city like Los Angeles, Chicago, or New York, there is professional pressure to stay fit and look young, and people are realizing that those qualities are important for staying competitive in the job market. This has contributed to the increase in the number of men who are getting plastic surgery, especially men who work in the modeling, entertainment or fitness industries.

Popular Procedures Among Men

Male patients tend to want to have work done, without looking like they've had work done. Some of the nonsurgical procedures for men include BOTOX and Dysport to get rid of their fine lines. Men are also using fillers and CoolSculpting to treat common problem areas, such as love handles.

Surgical options for men include liposuction, which is excellent for helping a man lose that last couple of inches that just won't go away with diet and exercise. Liposuction can target problem areas because it permanently removes stubborn fat cells.

At our office, we treat quite a few men looking to correct gynecomastia, which is the development of breast tissue. It's often treated with liposuction and the removal of some of the glandular tissue.

As men approach their 50s and 60s, they often elect to undergo eyelid surgery or a facelift. Rhinoplasty on the other hand, is undergone by men of all ages.

Men Can Look Their Best Too

Though plastic surgery was once considered a club for women who wanted to enhance their looks, that's no longer the case, and the trend is gaining traction among men in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond.

Whether you're recently divorced and back on the dating scene, want to be on the top of your game for your career, want to look good for your life partner, or simply want to look your best, you should explore all of your surgical and nonsurgical options with our Board Certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Yuly Gorodisky.
