Online Dating and Plastic Surgery

Have you joined the ranks of members on a dating site, such as Match.com or eHarmony? If so, has online dating changed the way you view your appearance? Do you judge other members on theirs? If you're like most people, it only takes you a second to decide if you like someone's profile pic.

Chemistry is chemistry, right?

You've finally tried online dating, and suddenly it has blown the door wide open to hundreds of possible "matches." You want to fetch the best possible candidates or suitors, so obviously, you want to look your best when you post your profile picture. That is the first thing they'll notice about you.

As you know, first impressions are critical, especially in the world of online dating.

When possible matches are surfing the online dating site, you want them to notice you, and not your frown lines or your crow's feet.

Just as social media and selfies have changed the way we view our appearance, so has online dating. Because, if someone doesn't like your profile pic, they won't even contact you for a first date.

We Don't Have to Grow Old Anymore

In an era when nearly 50 percent of marriages end in divorce, we have millions of singles and recently divorced folks signing up for online dating sites. Many of them are waging a war on sun damage, stress-related wrinkles and deep frown lines, because, they want to look fantastic in their profile pics.

To increase their chances of landing a mate, members of online dating sites are turning to plastic surgery…to give them an edge over their competition.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), in 2014, 15.6 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States, a 3 percent increase from 2013.

The top 5 cosmetic surgeries in 2014 were:

  1. Breast augmentation
  2. Rhinoplasty
  3. Liposuction
  4. Blepharoplasty
  5. Facelift

While the plastic surgeon's office used to be a place where mostly women flocked to, that's no longer the case. Today, plastic surgery is on the rise for men. According to the ASPS's 2014 statistics, the number of men getting plastic surgery continues to rise.

The top procedures for men in 2014:

  1. Pectoral implants
  2. Male breast reduction

Just like women who want to look their best for their online profiles, a growing number of men want to look younger and more sculpted, and they want to be confident about their appearance too.

When people are recently divorced or trying to reap the benefits of online dating, often engaging in a healthy diet and regular exercise, and sometimes a few minor tweaks with plastic surgery is all it takes to give them the confidence boost they need to be happy and put their best foot forward on the dating scene.
