The eyes are one of the first things people see when they look at someone. No one wants their eyes to look tired or droopy, now do they? Depending on factors such as genetics, sun damage, diet, skincare, and smoking, the eyes can be one of the first places to show signs of aging. Those concerned about aging will often drink plenty of water, apply sunscreen daily, eat a diet rich in antioxidants, and use quality skincare products, hoping to delay the visible signs of aging.
While it’s important for everyone to incorporate an anti-aging routine, it’s not necessarily enough to keep one’s eye area looking as youthful as they would like. Eventually, the time comes when many people decide that they need help from a plastic surgeon to rejuvenate the appearance of the eye area and turn back the clock. Here are some treatment options:
1. Botox for the eye area: One of the first signs of aging is crow’s feet, which are wrinkles outside of the eyes. Botulinum Toxin, otherwise known as Botox, is the first line of defense against crow’s feet. Botox is a neuromodulator, which is very predictable and effective at treating crow’s feet. Injections typically need to be repeated every three to four months.
Other options are Xeomin and Dysport. These days, many patients are turning to Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport to actually prevent the onset of wrinkles around the eyes and the forehead. So, if you have developed crow’s feet around the eyes, these may be an excellent option for you.
2. Dermal fillers for the eyes. If you have “puffy eyes,” dermal fillers, such as Juvederm Volbella or Restylane may help – these help by smoothing the eye area out.
3. Eyelid surgery for under-eye bags. Do you suffer from puffy under-eye bags? Or, have you developed puffy, droopy skin that hangs over your eyelids? If so, eyelid surgery may be the procedure for you. With this surgery, you get it done once and you never have to have it again. Essentially, a small incision is made under the eyelid; the fat is removed and the area is smoothed out. In effect, the eyes look less tired and appear more youthful.
4. Brow lift to wake up the eyes. Aging causes the brows to droop – an inevitable occurrence for some people. A brow lift can reshape the brows and “wake up” the eyes, making the patient look more rejuvenated.
