Have you ever had someone guess your age and they guessed you to be older than you are? If “yes,” it’s a bothersome feeling, isn’t it? It’s almost as bad as asking a woman if she’s pregnant when she’s not. Thanks to advances in anti-aging and cosmetic surgery, it’s getting easier to fool people into believing you’re five, ten, or even twenty years younger than you actually are – now that has a nice ring to it.
Let’s take a closer look at the telltale signs of aging and the lifestyle and treatment options:
1. Sun-damaged skin. Years of playing in the sun or using a tanning bed can damage the skin, causing sun spots and redness. Chemical peels, comprehensive skin care program, photo facial treatment (IPL), and laser skin resurfacing can all improve facial blemishes and even the skin tone.
2. Toxic overload. We live in a modern environment and usually have been exposed to all kinds of pollution. Of course, diet and lifestyle factors contribute to toxic overload as well. Thankfully, it’s not too late to reverse the damage done. By drinking adequate amounts of water, wearing sunscreen daily, eating a “clean” diet, using quality skincare products, keeping up regular treatments for sun damaged skin such as chemical peels, Hydrafacials, and routine facial maintenance treatments.
3. Wrinkles on the face. Wrinkles are definitely affected by genetic and lifestyle factors, but we all age eventually – we cannot escape developing wrinkles at some point in our lives. In our 30s, 40s and 50s, injectables can make us look years younger. But as we get older, a mini facelift or a traditional facelift can deliver amazing results that are not only dramatic, but long lasting.
4. Loss of facial volume. As we age, we lose facial fat, which is responsible for facial volume and a youthful appearance. In effect, our skin begins to droop and we develop deep wrinkles, especially around the mouth. With the help of fillers, such as Juvederm, Radiesse, Voluma, or Sculptra, or with fat transfer proceudres, volume can be restored, making our face look smoother, fuller and more youthful.
5. Puffy, droopy eyes. Did you look in the mirror one day and suddenly notice that the skin below your brows and eyelid was puffy? Well, this tends to happen in one’s mid to late-thirties and it’s a pesky sign of aging. Thankfully, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or a brow lift corrects this effect by removing excess fat, muscle and skin, restoring the eyes’ youthful appearance.
6. Dark circles under the eyes. As the skin thins with age, dark circles can become more apparent, especially in fair skinned individuals. The go-to solutions: PRP, laser skin resurfacing, facial fillers like Restylane, or fat grafting to restore volume and diminish the appearance of dark circles.
7. A “turkey waddle” neck. Nothing says, “I’m over 50” like a turkey waddle neck. For many individuals in their 50s and 60s (sometimes younger) who are active, the neck is the first place to indicate their real age. The solutions include: Kybella injections (these destroy fat cells and tighten the neck area), Liposuction, Fractora, NeckTite or J-plasma tightening, or a traditional neck lift.
8. Thin lips. Sadly, even full lips tend to thin with age. Often, this thinning becomes noticeable in a person’s late thirties and early forties. The simplest solution is to add volume and enhance the lips with fillers.
