How Long Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Last?

What to Expect from a Brazilian Butt Lift

Dr. Gorodisky utilizes a safe and effective technique for Brazilian butt lifts, and performs this procedure more often than many competitors in the industry. For many patients, one of the most attractive aspects of a Brazilian butt lift, or a BBL, is the fact that they can enhance their buttocks area without receiving artificial implants. This is because the procedure involves removing fat from unwanted areas, like the stomach area, neck, waist, back, thighs, or arms, and transferring it to the buttocks area, creating a natural-looking, shapely effect.

Patients are under general anesthesia during the BBL procedure, and we use Liposuction to remove unwanted fat from certain areas. We then specially process and re-inject that fat into the buttocks area to enhance the shape. For two weeks following the procedure, patients should not sit or lay on the buttocks, as this can compromise the body’s ability to accept the fat transfer.

The longevity of the Brazilian butt lift procedure for each patient will depend on how their body handles the recovery process. Throughout the lifetime of the BBL, the patient typically retains 60-70% of the initial fat transferred to the buttocks. The butt will stabilize in its long-term position around ninety days following the procedure. In total, patients can expect a BBL to last several years, but some patients might see results that last as long as several decades.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a BBL?

The best patients for Brazilian butt lifts are those who feel their buttocks lack in fullness, volume, and shape. Before getting a BBL, it is important to make sure you are in good general health for a surgical procedure and will be able to tolerate the anesthesia. If you have sagging skin under the buttocks area, it might be necessary to remove some of the skin before the procedure. Because of the nature of a BBL, the patient must have a sufficient amount of fat in another area of their body in order to successfully transfer the fat. Patients who are overly thin will not have enough fat for the transfer. We need to be able to get around five pounds of fat so that we can re-inject one to two pounds of fat into the buttocks area.

Before beginning this procedure, we will have a consultation where we will discuss your goals, medical history, and assess whether it is appropriate for your needs. If we determine that the procedure is not right for you, there are a number of other procedures available that can help achieve similar effects. In these cases, we can either perform or can refer you to a clinic who can perform an alternative procedure, like one of the following:

  • Buttocks implants

During a buttock implants process, implants are placed within the muscle using incisions for natural-looking effects. There are two main types of silicone buttock or gluteal implants: oval and round implants. Round implants are designed to improve the shape of the buttocks, enhance the appearance of the hips, as well as prevent the area from appearing too long. Oval implants are designed to create an ovoid buttock shape.

  • Collagen stimulating injections or fillers

The buttocks area is one of the many places that fillers can enhance. Dermal fillers like Sculptra® can improve the shape and appearance of the buttocks area without the need for surgeries.

If the insecurity surrounding your buttocks area has to do with loose skin, skin-tightening lasers might be the best treatment option. Skin tightening lasers can tone and tighten the area to give it a more lifted appearance.
