Plastic Surgery Not Just for Women

In recent years, plastic surgeons have seen a steady increase in the number of men who seek plastic surgery to address their body woes. Nowadays, men of all ages are turning to plastic surgery to improve their body image.

While plastic surgery is often associated with women more than men, it's no secret that men of all ages are becoming more drawn to plastic surgery than ever before. For years women have been turning to plastic surgery to enhance their physical appearance, reverse the signs of aging, and defy the laws of gravity and genetics, so why can't men take full advantage of everything that plastic surgery has to offer?

Men are notorious for not being as open about their bodies as women, but that does not mean that they don't have their own insecurities about their physical appearance, especially as they reach their forties, fifties and beyond.

In the last decade, plastic surgeons have been seeing a steady increase in the number of men seeking plastic surgery to treat their problem areas. Here are some of the most common complaints that we hear from our male patients and which surgeries are available to bring about great results.

The Notorious Beer Belly

While it's called a "beer belly" because it can be caused by too many calories from beer, many men develop extra fat around the abdomen because of genetics. For those men who find that no amount of diet and exercise will eliminate the excess body fat around their waste, they may want to consider liposuction or Coolsculpting.

Male Breasts

As men age, it becomes exceedingly more difficult to maintain the svelte physique they enjoyed in high school or college. It is not uncommon for men to develop fat deposits around the chest area, which results in the appearance of male breasts, which is medically known as "gynecomastia."

According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), on average 40 to 60 percent of men suffer from this, which explains why male breast reduction procedures were in the top five plastic surgery procedures that men underwent in 2011.

This problem can be resolved in as little as two hours by means of liposuction or by cutting excess glandular tissue. An added bonus, it is usually performed on an outpatient basis.

An Aging Face

In a day and age where fifty is the new forty, more and more men are turning to Botox injections and facelifts to reverse the outward signs of aging. Just like women, men enjoy a self-confidence boost when they are able to turn back the clock through surgical and/or non-surgical approaches.

Whether a man wants to look as young as he feels, look his best for dating, or for his career, there is no shame in men taking full advantage of the latest advances in plastic surgery techniques, especially when their quality of life can be greatly improved.
