BOTOX or Facelift, Which is Right for You?

Everyone wants to look their best, and with so many options available, there is a procedure to fit everyone's budget and lifestyle. Stress reduction, a healthy diet, sunscreen, and exercise can only do so much.

Eventually, Mother Nature catches up to all of us. We can't escape the fact that years of exposure to the sun, pollution, and that pesky thing called gravity will eventually take their toll.

Some of us experience deep creases and folds, while others get early signs of crow's feet and fine lines. Others will get sagging skin under their jaw line and neck.

While there is no fountain of youth, fortunately plastic surgeons such as Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Yuly Gorodisky have spent years refining the fine art of anti-aging through various surgical and non-surgical procedures.

What are your options? You know that facelifts are surgical procedures and BOTOX® and filler injections are not. What are the major differences?

Surgical Facelift Procedure

The surgical facelift reshapes the deep facial structures and removes extra skin tissues, restoring a more youthful appearance. If you suffer from lots of sagging skin, it cannot be shrunk, the excess skin will have to be removed, repositioned, and repaired.

Facelift surgery may be combined with eyelid surgery, a forehead or neck lift to improve the facial appearance. A facelift can resolve forehead creases, a double chin, droopy eyebrows, sagging skin along jaw line, and much more.

BOTOX and Filler Injections

BOTOX is made of botulinum toxin, and is injected to reduce wrinkles, crow's feet, and frown lines. BOTOX is usually injected into the upper part of the face (wrinkles that originate from the corners of the eyes, creases between the brows, and forehead creases).

The muscles absorb the BOTOX, allowing them to relax; this treatment in combination with injectable fillers to smooth out wrinkles is often referred to as a "non-surgical facelift" but it's not a facelift at all. No skin is removed, there is no lifting, and the injections result in smoother skin that has a more youthful appearance.

An excellent facelift could yield results that last up to 10 years, while BOTOX injections last 3 to 6 months. This means that patients need re-treatments every 3 to 4 months to maintain the results. Most fillers may last 3 to 12 months and some may last as long as 2 years.

Often, plastic surgeons will recommend BOTOX injections to patients in their 30s and 40s, and elect a facelift after about 10 years, and when the patient desires more lasting results.
