What You Should Know About Breast Augmentation

Most women are dissatisfied with their breasts; they have a love/hate relationship with them. While breasts were designed to provide nourishment for our young – they have become symbols of fertility and femininity and in most developing countries are considered “provocative” in every sense of the word, which is one reason why breastfeeding in public has become such a hot debate.

Since breasts symbolize beauty and sex appeal, it’s no wonder why so many women have misgivings about their natural breast shape, especially after going through physical changes, such as pregnancy or extreme weight loss.

Ask any woman, and you’ll have a difficult time finding one who is satisfied with her breasts. Usually, you’ll hear comments like, “they’re too small” or “too lopsided” or “too saggy.” Then, you have the breastfeeding mothers whose breasts performed beautifully when nature called, but once they weaned their babies, their breasts no longer resembled their pre-baby selves.

Considering the fact that breasts are delicate parts and how they can lose volume and shape from weight loss, pregnancy, childbirth, and simple aging, it’s understandable why so MANY women run to the nearest plastic surgeon’s office for a breast augmentation.

Are you considering a breast augmentation?

Perhaps your breasts are small and you’ve been thinking about a breast augmentation. Or, perhaps your breastfeeding or childbearing days are over and you’re on the fence about getting surgery to bring your “girls” back.

Our motto is that before you take the plunge, you should fully research breast augmentation – this way you can be certain if it’s right for you. Here is some information that can help you make an informed decision!

The bigger isn’t always better argument.

Many women think that it’s better to go bigger, but that is not the case! Unless you work in certain industries where it pays to have a large bust, many plastic surgeons will attest that it’s better to aim for a natural-looking breast size.

If a woman is flat-chested, the goal is for her to be able to fill out normal-sized clothing. When women go overly large, it can be very difficult to find bras, bikinis and tops that fit properly – a shopping nightmare! Not only that, but extremely large implants look worse than smaller implants over time.

Sizing of an implant is “individual.”

You cannot take a “one size fits all” approach with implants; that’s highly unrealistic. The size of an implant has to do with the woman’s body. For example, a 100 pound woman that is 5’ tall and a size 0 will have much smaller implants than a 5’9” woman that is 175 pounds and a size 12.

One thing we’ll do is have a woman try on a bra with different sized implants. As she tries different implants with the bra, she’ll put on a shirt and look at her chest from different angles in the mirror. This is an effective method for estimating the right size implants and it helps women get a feel for how big their new breasts will be.

Breast augmentation is a highly-individualized procedure. Some women are seeking “natural-looking” results, where in contrast, nothing would make others happier than a fuller look and cleavage of a push up bra.

Bottom line: you should meet with our Board Certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Yuly Gorodisky, who will be honest about what will and what won’t work with your body and frame. Dr. Yuly Gorodisky is known for achieving the patient’s desired look, whether it is a natural-looking result or a more fuller look, and he’d be glad to explain how such results are achieved.
