Getting Curves Using Your Own Body Fat

Most women have battled with stubborn body fat to one degree or another, especially if they’ve had children. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t stress about what we eat, what’s gluten-free and what’s not, and how much we need to exercise, but we can dream!

We may be years away from getting all of our daily nutrients in one little pill however, we still have many advantages over our mothers’ generation. With advances in plastic surgery, we can have bigger breasts, we can erase years with BOTOX and dermal fillers, and we can eliminate stubborn body fat with liposuction. So, we can’t complain.

But it gets better: Plastic surgeons have developed a way to take our “problem areas” and put them to good use with a fat transfer procedure. Essentially, fat is taken from the places we don’t want it and put to good use in other parts of the body where we want our bodies to be fuller or curvier, for example, in the breasts, buttocks, calves or face.

Let’s say you had three children and since kid number two, you’ve had stubborn fat deposits in your stomach. You’ve developed a “muffin top” in recent years and what you’d really like is a slimmer stomach, but a fuller derriere because you weren’t blessed with Kim Kardashian’s “genetics."

With the fat transfer procedure, fat would be removed from your stomach and hips (where you don’t want it) and transferred to augment your buttocks. We call this a Brazilian butt lift. The result – a slimmer stomach and hips and a nice, round buttocks – every woman’s dream come true.

What is fat transfer?

Fat transfer is also known as fat injection and fat grafting. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the fat transfer procedure is not only safe and well-tolerated, but it produces natural-looking results, which is understandable since you’re using your own body fat.

The fat transfer procedure can be used to plump up and fill in various parts of the body. It can be used in the face to treat deep lines and wrinkles, and it can even be used to reduce the appearance of old acne scars.

One of the most appealing aspects of fat transfer is that there is no risk that your body will reject it. Generally, your own fat blends in naturally to the areas that it’s injected to, whether it’s other fat, tissue or bone.

As far as butt enhancement is concerned, many doctors are not comfortable with butt implants, but they are comfortable with butt injections because they create a natural contour and carry little risk of complication.

Am I a candidate for fat transfer?

It depends. If you have very little body fat or you are naturally thin, you may not have enough fat to harvest. As an experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Yuly Gorodisky knowns where to look for fat on your body, even if you are at or near your ideal body weight. He can determine if you’re a good candidate for a fat transfer procedure.
