5 Facts About Liposculpture

If you’re researching liposuction, you may have come across the term “liposculpture,” and now you’re wondering how liposuction and liposculpture differ. In order to shed light on the topic, we’re going to explain the differences between the two terms below.

Here are some facts about liposculpture:

1. The difference can depend on who you ask.

What’s the difference between liposuction and liposculpture? In many cases, it depends on who you ask. Many plastic surgeons will say that when they are removing a large volume of fat, they are performing liposuction. When they are removing less fat, but shaping it so it mirrors the muscles underneath, creating an athletic appearance, this technique is often referred to as “liposculpture.” Often liposculpture involves adding the fat that was removed to areas where it is needed.

2. The terms can be used interchangeably.

Some plastic surgeons use the terms “liposuction” and “liposculpture” interchangeably. However, surgeons often use liposculpture to leave or remove fat in order to give the illusion of a sculpted look, such as six pack abs. When a small amount of fat is left in a specific location, it can mimic the look of fuller muscles.

3. Liposuction is sculpting.

Whenever a surgeon is performing liposuction, he or she is sculpting, regardless if they are performing Tumescent Lipo, Power Assisted Lipo, SmartLipo, VASER, SLIMLipo or another type.

4. Liposculpting involves less fat and contouring.

These are the key differences between liposuction and liposculpture: 1) liposuction involves removing a large volume of fat, 2) liposculpture is where there’s less fat, and 3) liposculpture involves shaping and contouring an area with fat transfer.

5. Liposculpture creates a chiseled or athletic look.

Often, athletes, weight lifters, and people in the entertainment industry will have liposculpture performed when no amount of diet and exercise will give them the definition they’re striving for. It can be the ideal procedure for someone who is at or close to their ideal body weight but need that little extra to achieve the lean, sculpted look they desire.
