Maintaining Your Plastic Surgery Results During the Holidays

There are various surgical (and non-surgical) procedures that can deliver dramatic results – arm lift, tummy tuck, liposuction, male breast reduction, neck lift, body contouring and much more. However, in order for a patient to enjoy long-lasting results, he or she needs to take the proper steps to maintain the effects of their procedure.

One of the single most important factors in maintaining plastic surgery results is to stay within a healthy weight range and to not gain a significant amount of weight post-surgery. With the holidays around the corner we thought this post would be timely. After all, the delicious food and holiday stress puts us all to the test!

Avoiding Holiday Weight Gain

Oh, the pumpkin pie rugelach, the challah bread pudding, the homemade gelt, bird’s milk cake, potato cakes, medovik, chocolate, pumpkin and pecan pies...we can go on and on. There is so much temptation during the holidays, especially if you’ll be entertaining a lot or attending a lot of festive parties this holiday season.

So, how are you expected to avoid gaining 10 or 15 pounds this holiday season? Here is our advice for enjoying the holidays while avoiding the “traditional” holiday weight gain that can counteract your plastic surgery results:

  • Get physical exercise 5 or 6 days a week, whether this means taking a brisk walk, going out for a run, swimming, weight lifting, or taking your favorite class at the gym. Daily exercise will boost your metabolism and help combat weight gain.
  • Drink loads of water every day – at least eight, 12-ounce glasses a day.
  • To reduce belly bloat, avoid flour and sugar except on very “special occasions,” like Christmas dinner or your work party. If you want to go all out, you’d avoid them altogether but some people want to enjoy their favorite holiday dishes.
  • If you expect to attend a fancy dinner with delicious food, eat very light clean foods that day so you can indulge more at the big meal.
  • If you have a lot of willpower and you attend a nice dinner or party, stick to protein and vegetables and avoid anything with flour or sugar. Remember, honey, brown sugar, and agave are considered sugars too, so it’s better to stay away from these.
  • Alcoholic drinks can have tons of sugar and loads of calories. To keep your alcohol low-sugar and calorie, opt for Chardonnay, or straight liquor like vodka and tequila.
  • If you’re looking forward to a favorite dish, you can work out that day, drink lots of water, and eat light and healthy before enjoying that high-calorie meal you can’t live without. This way, your overall calorie intake is in check.
  • If you’re a die-hard health nut who isn’t concerned about giving in to temptation, you’d be wise to exercise regularly, drink plenty of fluids, avoid flour and sugar, and eat “clean” foods. This of course, is the most effective way to maintain your plastic surgery results!
